ioSafe's Protection Technology can protect critical information from being destroyed by fires and floods. Focusing specifically on fire; all ioSafe products, or products developed licensing the ioSafe Protection Technology is tested using industry standard fire testing protocols.
The ASTM E119 is a fire standard which uses a specifically designed time and temperature curve to simulate an average structural fire. Products are placed into the fire test furnace and monitored. Our pass/fail criteria for all disaster simulation testing is data retention -- did we get the data back. At ioSafe, this is the most critical metric of success.
When demonstrating a fire test, ioSafe usually includes a normal, non-protected external hard disk drive in the furnace along side an external disk drive that is protected with the company's protection technology. The comparison is striking! Usually the unprotected drive erupts in flames within the first few minutes. Towards the end of a test, the unprotected drive metal parts liquefy and begin dripping to the bottom of the furnace, leaving nothing but metal puddle of slag. The ioSafe system protects the data and allows the embedded drive to survive the extreme heat. Once cooled, the data can be retrieved easily.
Independent third party verification of data survivability is also performed.
